Ad Hoc

Committee Description

An ad hoc committee is a specialized and impromptu forum that assembles to address immediate and unforeseen international issues or crises. Unlike the regular MUN committees with predetermined agendas, ad hoc committees replicate real-world diplomatic challenges requiring rapid response, creative problem-solving, and swift adaptation. Delegates participate in high-intensity sessions where they must be well-informed and adept at diplomacy, navigating evolving global scenarios while collaborating with others to craft effective solutions. This unique MUN experience tests their crisis management skills, making it an exciting and educational component of CANMUN.

Special features about Ad Hoc:

  1. No position paper needed!
  2. You will not know what the committee is about until your first committee sessions!

The Dais

Matthew Cianchetti

Currently, a senior at (insert independent Toronto school here), the ad hoc chair is as mysterious as the Committee itself. They fully embrace the rhythm of fast-paced debates, crises, and rushed private directives, only writing two position papers throughout their seasoned Model UNcareer. To them, the most important part of Model UN is learning to advocate, not just for yourself but those in your community. The skills these conferences have offered them is the ability to lead projects tackling homophobia, health equity, and mental health; they urge delegates to find their own passions. Some clues about your Ad Hoc are that they are INFJ on the MBTI, loves talking about Canadian law, and are aspiring glider pilot. They encourage delegates to challenge themselves, break barriers, and see all the chaos and beauty Ad Hoc offers.

Director

Jordan Bickramsingh

Jordan Vishal Bickramsingh is a grade 12 student at Brampton Centennial Secondary School and is the chair of the Ad Hoc committee at CANMUN 2024. Jordan first discovered Model UN from the coach of his middle school debate team. Once he got to high school, he wasted no time joining in. Among the many things that drew him to MUN, Jordan's being a history nerd and interest in politics (both local and global) have made him build a strong interest. His penchant for creative writing plays no small role in the passion he has for creating committees. When he's not doing MUN related activities, Jordan spends most of his time writing stories, playing guitar, and gaming with friends!

Risha Kansara

Risha Kansara (she/her) is a sophomore student attending Turner Fenton Secondary School. Entering high school as a timid student, Risha found Model UN as a chance to improve her communication skills. She immediately fell in love with the cooperative, yet competitive nature Model UN has to offer. Risha not only explored the craft of creating resolutions and participating in heated debates but also creating long-lasting relationships with other delegates. Outside of Model UN, Risha enjoys the thrilling sport of Formula 1. She spends most of her weekends watching races and cheering for her favourite team, the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team. Unfortunately, she is slowly losing hope of seeing another Mercedes domination.
